Description

To the Parent: After an arrest, it is common to have all types of emotions such as: fear of the unknown; guilt; shame; anger; depression; helplessness; and/or, anxiety. And, when your son or daughter is arrested, these feelings, on the parent’s part, are amplified many times over. Learning information about the system and your situation can help you empower yourself to avoid making a bad situation worse. It is likely your loved one made some poor choices which ultimately caused this current situation. It is very important to gain insight into those choices and self-correct to move forward and to reduce the negative impact of this on your loved one’s future. This course will discuss the processes of the criminal justice system and explain possible outcomes to your situation. You will also be introduced to opportunities to enter classes, complete assessments, be offered supportive resources, and/or programs which can assist with learning from this experience and avoiding a pattern of involvement with the criminal justice system. This pre-trial period is a good time to document your loved one’s efforts and to allow them to demonstrate that they are not the label of their offense. TCSA will assist you with establishing a plan of action to document your efforts for the Courts. This program is designed for those considered to be “first time offenders” but is also appropriate for any person seeking clarity for a pending offense. Note: this program does not provide legal advice and it is recommended that you seek legal counsel in addition to this course as your right.

To the Adolescent: It is likely that your parent or other caring adult is asking you to read this and may ask you to attend this seminar. You may be feeling: fear of the unknown; guilt; shame; anger; depression; helplessness; and/or, anxiety. Whatever you are feeling, please know that “this too will pass” and this moment does not have to define your life in a negative way. But this is an important time and you are in total control of where you go from here. This seminar will give you some ideas for how to move forward from here and will also provide some realistic information about what will likely happen if you continue down the path that caused you to be in your current situation. TCSA’s hope for you is that you are able to find our way and that your way does not involve the pain of continued involvement in the criminal justice system.
